Happy Friday!! The last one before Christmas!!
If you follow me on Instagram, you are probably already feeling tired of me, as just last night I shared a wordy post featuring a few of my most humbling experiences of 2024. If you a) didn’t see it, then you should go read it. If you b) did see it and are tired of me, now’s your chance to check out. And if you c) did see it and are still here…. to you I offer my warmest hug and a glass of my most expensive wine.
I was down BAD last weekend and at the beginning of this week with a good old case of influenza A — so please allow me this opportunity to remind you to get your flu shot (I did, but not soon enough before I got the germ! classique!), to keep up your vitamin C intake, and to wash those hands this winter. My experience was truly awful, but it did allow me to watch the Santa Clause films several more times, as well as to try a new Netflix movie as well. More on that below ;)
A few recent things you should definitely check out:
Chappell Roan and her parents singing “Pink Pony Club” together (my favorite parts are 1) when she says the words “I’ll make my mama proud” and her dad points to her mom, and 2) when her mom reaches for her dad’s hand when she sings “Don’t think I’ve left you all behind”) + the clip of her dad crying as her mom talks about what the song means to her and how proud they are of Chappell
The trailer for Summer House season 9!!!!! (also feel free to watch my reaction video)
Dr. Lilly Jay’s essay for The Cut (if you don’t already know what it is/who she is, I don’t want to preface it for you with my thoughts — so just read it!)
An expletive-laced yet highly important perspective reminder
Movies: While in the deepest depths of my illness, I watched Carry-On on Netflix. I have never seen Jason Bateman play a bad guy before, and I did enjoy the experience. More importantly, I want to note that I’ve had a deep, long-running crush on Taron Egerton ever since I first saw the Robin Hood trailer (I made the part at 0:49 my entire personality for approximately two straight years and no, I’ve never seen the movie, only the trailer about 3278359 times), so I’ll watch anything he’s in. Two content warnings are that 1) it’s a bit cop propaganda-y?? and 2) if you have even a remote fear of airports/flying, this would be a good one to skip.
Sports: If you need a cocktail party tidbit for this almost-holiday-weekend, a fun fact to share is that this Sunday’s NCAA Volleyball Championship features two women head coaches for the first time ever!!!! It’ll be the first time a woman will win the title as a head coach since 1981 (the tournament’s first year!), which is both sad/dark and exciting. My personal pick to win is Penn State, as their game against Nebraska on Thursday night was SO fun to watch, and because their head coach (a baller!) is currently battling breast cancer. If anyone else needs to Google what a “Nittany Lion” actually is, now’s the time.
That’s all I’ve got! For those celebrating, I hope you have an amazing Christmas. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if ever (on a holiday or otherwise) you’re interested in a link to a virtual church service, hit me up.
Cheers!
XO, Gail
