Hi from Palm Springs! I had every intention of writing a fully normal newsletter before I left town, but alas — here I sit on Friday morning (in the sun! about to go walk for a coffee!) with nothing written. In the interest of maximizing my time away and prioritizing computer-free Gail, I will leave you with just a few things:
If you haven’t listened to Cowboy Carter yet, the only person you’re hurting is yourself. My personal favorites (at this moment; subject to change!!!!) are as follows (in tracklist order, not order of favoritism because I simply can’t do that):
AMERIICAN REQUIEM
BODYGUARD
I know I said I wasn’t ordering the top 5, but if I were to do that, this one would be currently in 5th, with SPAGHETTII and LEVII’S JEANS coming close to knocking it out of its spot.
ALLIIGATOR TEARS
II MOST WANTED
YA YA
I’m not even going to comment on that woman on TikTok who said the album was “boring,” other than to repeat the sentiment of one of the video’s comments, which said it’s literally impossible to be bored while listening to YA YA.
In the interest of some self-promotion, please watch this TikTok I made this week, then marvel at how dumb it is that so many people commented on it saying I had the Wendy’s slogan wrong, when in fact THEY have the Wendy’s slogan wrong. We should absolutely normalize a quick Google search before commenting dumb shit.
On a positive note, I do have a vision of Wendy’s making the commercial, hiring me as creative director, and me standing on set (with a Greta Gerwig headset, of course) with Caitlin and Angel. I’d be wearing my new Togethxr hoodie and then probably Jason Sudeikis would show up. Just a thought!
Have the best weekend!
XO, Gail
And as a reminder (I know this disclaimer is getting old but it’s only getting more and more important!!!!!):
It’s an election year, and it is my duty to remind you that while newsletters like this are crucial for maintaining sanity and levity, I am not a news source and am in no way a replacement for staying informed. For every newsletter you read that makes you smile, I hope you also read an informed take on politics, world events, and social issues (then fact check it!) — and for every heavy piece of news you take in, I hope you also consume and/or create a piece of art that promotes light, laughter, and joy.
