Happy Friday!!
Sometimes life hands us the most sour of lemons (i.e. literally any time one opens a news app or scrolls anywhere on the internet) — but other times, we’re given sweet, lemonade-flavored gifts. Today, I offer you a gift of my own in the form of my second newsletter of the week (Thank you for reading! Please never leave!) — and as a token of my gratitude that you opened it, I’ll keep this short and sweet.
Books: In the interest of full disclosure, I’ll share that my primary reason for keeping this short and sweet is that, as soon as I finish writing this, I get to pour a crisp glass of sauvy b and dive back into Sunrise on the Reaping. I am iiiiinches away from finishing it, and I’m deep in that middle ground where I both NEED to know what happens and am also already dreading the book being over. Word on the street: the ending is going to make me gutturally sob. Hear me say — I looooove to cry, especially at the hands of a book. The (sloppy, heaving) tears I shed courtesy of The Nightingale and The Four Winds were some of the most cathartic of my entire life, and I am genuinely looking forward to experiencing such catharsis at the hands of Suzanne Collins. May the odds be ever in my favor.
Other books that I literally guarantee will make you sob: Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow; The Great Believers; and All the Light We Cannot See
Music: As I write this, it’s the evening of Thursday, April 17 — officially marking just one short month until I see my queen Beyoncé in the flesh on the Cowboy Carter Tour. I’m simultaneously actively panicking at the realization that I have no clue what to wear and also desperately waiting for that day to finally arrive. I’m thankful that Beyoncé and Lady Gaga so graciously decided to visit the city of Chicago four long months apart to allow my bank account to recover between shows, but that won’t stop me from feverishly counting down the days to each. Perhaps they could do a joint show and sing “Telephone”!? A girl can dream.
On a related note, it’s worth mentioning that, even six weeks after its release, headphones simply aren’t enough for the song “Don’t Call Tonight” — I need it injected directly into my veins. Spotify Wrapped, LG and I will see you in November!
Fashion, Part One: Last night, as I was laying out my clothes to wear to the office, I had a thought. “Perhaps I should break out one of my trusty blazers,” I thought to myself. “I haven’t done that in a while!” Was I perhaps subconsciously inspired by Paige’s TWO perfect suits at Monday night’s WNBA draft? Most certainly. Did I wear my blazer as well as she wore her custom Coach and Louis Vuitton? Most certainly not. (Read about Paige’s insanely talented stylist, Brittany Hampton, here.) The rumor mill says we’ll see Paige on the first Monday in May this year… Fingers crossed!
Fashion, Part Two: The new Staud Tommy bags dropped for summer, and I do fear that if I don’t get this hot dog variation, I’ll simply wither away and die. Thoughts?
In closing, I hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend. If you’re anything like me, you are THRILLED to see the tail end of this long week — but just know, no matter how bad you screwed up these past few days, at least you didn’t launch yourself into space for several million dollars and claim it was done in the name of feminism. Cheers to that!
XO,
Gail
You must get that hot dog bag!
